Tilbury Hospital

My Grandmother's Medal

This Medal was presented to my Grandmother, Mary Ann Weston, for collecting the most money for the hospital in 1904.

She had 9 children who she dressed in costume for the yearly Tilbury Carnival and they went round the crowds of people watching from the pavements to collect money.

The Hospital used to rely on this money as it was their only means of income. There was no help from the Government in those days.

I wear this Medal with pride today.
