Shayshutt Family

Gainsborough Avenue

By Margaret Harrop

Never knew about this site, my husband found it. I lived in Gainsborough Avenue from the age of 4 to 20 when I got married. Its so nice to look back on school days, which I remember a lot of the names from, the school photos, and also the Tilbury floods, which for me and my brothers seemed like a big adventure, our surname was Shayshutt, does anyone remember it?

I most certainly do remember you and your family, I worked with your father in the same gang, mainly at 22 Shed Tilbury Dock during 1959/1967.You should be able to remember my sisters, Anne now living in Rayleigh and Doreen still living in Tilbury, I'm still in contact with Chris Bell, I think his sister, Mary, is about your age. Tilbury has certainly changed since those happy and I believe carefree days. The disappearance of St Chads school is a shame but nothing will wipe the memories from my mind of  the 4 years I attended the school.

Thanks Tony for getting in touch, your right about nothing can wipe out the memories of school days,we lived in Corringham up until 7 years ago, retired to Lincolnshire,a slower pace of life.My brother Chris still lives in Thurrock Park,Robert lives in Rochester,Clive in Corringham,Jennifer in Blackshots,Maureen St.Leonards on sea.My dad died a few years after he retired, very mush missed, mum just 4 years ago.Tilbury isnt the place of our childhood, sad to say,but thats progress, going to Essex this week,so im hoping that some of the family have some old photos of our child hood,my mum had a awful habit of throwing them away.
