Tilbury Riverside Station

Last day photos of the workers

These great photos were given to the site by Fred Morgan. His father Victor Morgan is in the photo and was known locally as Taffy.

If you can identify any other people in the photo that would be great!

  • In the top photo my Grandad is in the front row in the middle with a grey cardigan on, his name is Francis Guy Pitcher and he was a train driver.

  • My Grandfather Albert Bridgehouse is in this picture as mentioned by Cliff Cowin. I don’t suppose their is a decent copy of the original picture I could copy to give to my mum (Albert’s daughter Christine)

  • Bottom picture. Third from right is my father Cliff Cowin (Senior), known to his work colleagues as Bill or Garth.   He spent most of his working life at Tilbury Riverside Station as a porter and retired in 1985. He died in 2008 aged 87 years. Also eighth from right is Bert Bridgehouse.

  • My late father Richard Ault is in the last photo, front row seated, 5th from the right.  So good to see him again, always laughing !  He was one of the station managers.

  • My dad worked at Tilbury riverside station as a porter and before that as a plate layer where he lost 2 of his fingers at the time I must have been quite young, and we were living I think in Elgar Gardens and then moved to Dickens Avenue. Think it may have been early 50s.
