I also remember the steam ferries from the 1960’s. I remember looking down and watching them stoking the boilers. I think Catherine was the passenger ferry and Tessa was the car ferry. Here is an interesting link to the history of the Tilbury ferries from 1855, including many pictures.

The 2 old steam ferries were , Catherine and ,Tessa, Used them so many times in 1940s, getting to gravesend open air pool.Very nostalgic photos!

the small ferry is the new diesel powered one,the one on the left is one of the older steam vessel.I used to go on them when i went swimming in the open air pool in gravesend…i liked the old one best!
