Jonathan Catton

Former Heritage Officer and friend of the project.

Jonathan at the Orsett Show in 2015

The Tilbury Riverside Project would like to send their love and thoughts to the family of Jonathan Catton who sadly died suddenly on the 25th August.

He was a friend of the Tilbury and Chadwell Memories project, giving us encouragement and support when we were applying for the HLF grant and throughout the project. He has been a regular speaker at our events.

Through his “Down Memory Lane” column in the Thurrock Gazette, he introduced many people to aspects of their heritage that they didn’t know about.

He was a wonderful man, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

  • We would also like to send our condolences to Johnathan’s family and friends.  His generous help and knowledge were invaluable to us during the three years when we were writing our book about the history of North Stifford, for which he wrote the foreword.  He provided us with pictures, information and advice that would have been impossible to obtain elsewhere.  He was a great historian who loved his subject and he kindly agreed to come to North Stifford village hall on various occasions where he gave very interesting talks to our residents.   JC is a great loss to the community and will certainly be missed.
