Though not strictly Tilbury, in 1958 Tilbury provided the Thurrock Carnival Queen. My sister, Shirley Wood (nee Banks), was Tilbury’s representative that year. This occasion was quite an event in the Borough at that time and as I remember it was celebrated with a week long fair at Blackshots
