Tilbury Marathon Man!!
Charlie Lawrence - London Marathon 2013

Charlie Lawrence – London Marathon 2013
I have been in training since last May, when I started by running twice round our local park in the dark so no one could see me. I went home gasping for breath and shattered.
I stuck at it though, following a training programme designed for marathon events and gradually improved. Over the following months I built my distance up to 13 miles, training three times a week on my own. I thoroughly enjoyed the training (other than the cold weather).
As I have had a replacement knee the thought of other people in pain and needing surgery kept me focused when times got tough.
Once I got the ball rolling I was amazed at how it snowballed with donations coming in from everywhere. There are so many stories of reunions both with family and friends I wouldn’t know where to start. The whole experience was one of the most emotional ones of my life.

Charlie used to take football training for the kids in the 80s. I swear it was at athlone house. My mate mick turned up in doctor martin boots and somehow played in them. That was bonfire night 82 ? 83?
Charlie,
I remember you and your brother from St. Mary’s. If you read this, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Chris Vinson
Charlie,
I don’t know whether you remember me or not from those long past days, I was a friend of Chris Vinson and saw you mentioned on one of his posts. That led me to search your name and this page came up, I was particularly interested as I’ve done quite a bit of long distance running myself.
Well done on a great job raising money for a good cause, 42.2kms is not for the faint hearted especially when you’re running in the more mature categories!
