I have only just recently come across this St Chad’s School photograph and thought it might be of some sentimental value to those in pic!
I’m in it: Ted Crook, and I was surprised to see my cousin Marina (Carr) I always thought she was a year above me. Other names I can remember: Ron Atkinson, Michael Barratt, Charlie Eldridge, Cheryl Merchant. Maria Dichomodes. That’s my lot!

Hello Cheryl,
Remember you well, you used to scare me to death!?
Found a list that I wrote when I first got the photo. Don’t know how they got separated.
Apparently it was Class 5A (doesn’t mean anything to me!)
Boys: Tony Webb, Ted Crook, Dennis Byford, Lennie Bushell, Charlie Eldridge, Michael Barrett, Andy Reynolds, Michael Byford, Frank Gray, Ronnie Atkinson, John Conklin, Mick Durrell and David Wingham.
Girls: Claudette Spurrel, Sandra Rogers, Linda Humphreys, Lynette Morrel, Maureen Smith, Sandra Wakeling, Valerie Langan, Patricia May, Sandra Gibbons, Cartherine Philips, Sandra Lambert, Cheryl Merchant, Carol Parfrey, Marina Carr, Anne Shepherd, Joan (Peggy) Hitchcock, Hazel Constable, Maria Dichomodes, Patricia Hutson, Maria Dyer, Jean Herbert and Shirley Dale.
I think they’re right. My writing was and still is atrocious!?
Have some lovely memories of St. Chads. Hope you’re keeping well. Regards Ted Crook
I think the date of the photo is about 1960 as it looks like we were leaving age, could even be early 1961
Hi Andy,
Not on social media. It might have only been a brief time but I have found immeasurably pleasurable. I only use email. It is great to know that people I grew up with are still here!?
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Rosie’s fine, thank you for asking. She lived in the suburbs of Manchester for a few years. She now lives in Suffolk. Lyn Allen – yes!? Every I read your reply the memories come flooding back. This is not a comfortable forum for me. Too public. Which is a shame, because I have really enjoyed chatting and reminiscing.
Yes Ted me and Rosie had a short courtship, I remember Lyn Allen was sweet on you, and the time we tried to ride our bikes to St Albans to see a girl you had met on holiday, how is Rosie?
I’m really good, thanks. Nice surprise you replying.
I keep having a recurring memory that you had a thing about Rosie (!?). Also enjoying retirement on Canvey. It’s great talking. I think we’re in danger of taking over this website. It’s truly good to know that you are still around. I think like a lot of us at our age now have lost a lot of family and friends. That’s a bit morbid after not talking to each other for so long!?
remember going to the signal box where black Ken worked playing Ray Charles records, how are you Ted well I hope, I’m living in Blackshots been here fifty years now enjoying my retirement with a bit of fishing
Hello Andy,
I did remember you. Forgot to put your name down. Whoops sorry! I think one of the back row is Frankie Grey? Not too sure of the rest though.
How are you keeping. Well I hope. Great to hear from you. Some really fond memories and school and after.
Hiya Ted Andy Reynolds Here remember you well at school how are you mate, great photo I can name most on it.
Lenny Bushell to the left of Charlie Eldridge.
