1953 Floods - Were you or your family in Tilbury when the Queen visited?

Amy Gibb is a research with ITV. She is looking for anyone who was in Tilbury when the Queen visited following the floods in 1953. She writes,

“I understand that anyone there on the day would now be in their 70s. The high casualty numbers and the devastation caused makes this an important and powerful story to tell. It would be a privilege to hear their memories and recollections from this time (or from anyone who might have been a small child at the time and whose families were affected). Also, the Queen visited some houses which had been damaged by flooding, and to find anyone living in these houses or their surviving family members would be very interesting for us.

This is for an ITV television live concert celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee. The ITV concert is a National Lottery funded celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and is ‘the people’s celebration of the Queen’. Filmed at Manchester’s AO arena in front of an audience of 10,000, and produced by TBI Media – the event will consist of music performances, short films around themes related to the Queen’s reign and also recollections from members of the public and public figures who have met the Queen.  The event will record on 12 May and will broadcast on Sunday 5th June, 2022.  The expected television audience will be approximately 3 million viewers.”
