We lived in Crouch Road Chadwell (overlooking Tilbury marshes) On Sunday 1st Feb I looked out of my bedroom window and thought “is that snow on the marshes?”
The water came right to the bottom of Chadwell Hill. We housed a Tilbury couple for a while (can’t remember their name).
An army searchlight detachment set up on the hilltop at Lea Road playing light down onto the marshes and I remember being puzzled what a soldier was doing under a canvas with a local girl!
At some stage the Queen and entourage drove around the streets (gawd bless er!)
