In 1968 the East End dockland was in decline and the dockers were seeing dramatic changes. Containerization was growing; fewer dockers were needed and the old docks were not suitable for the larger vessels that carried these containers. But in Tilbury, the growth of container traffic meant that new facilities were needed. Thurrock Urban District Council and the Port of London held an exhibition to tell residents what was happening. This small booklet was produced to accompany the exhibition.
