The strangely named vessel DC VLAANDEREN 3000 passing Tilbury on 8/12/2021. She is listed as a hopper dredger built in 2002 at 2,744 gt. Can anyone explain her name?
The photo shows the website address http://www.groupdecloedt.be which is the website for Group De Cloedt which is abbreviated to DC. The word ‘Vlaanderen’ is Dutch for Flanders, the Dutch speaking area of Belgium. I’m not sure about the 3000 but maybe it is the tonnage that has been rounded up from 2,744 to the nearest thousand.
